Projects
NLC Defect Detection and
Visualization
Nematic liquid crystals are a state of matter with many potential applications. But in order to develop this applications, visualization methods are needed to detect and depict defects. This project aims to satisfy this need.
Graph & Tree Visualization
Graphs and trees naturally represent relationships between concepts. Many types of information contain such relationships, and thus informative graph and tree visualization is very important.
NLC Tensor Visualization
Nematic liquid crystals are a state of matter with many potential applications. But in order to develop this applications, visualization methods are neededt o assist in understanding the tensor alignment properties.
Security Visualization
Computer security experts must sift through and analyze an ever-growing and quickly changing amount of information in order to keep systems safe. This research program proposes a suite of visual analytic methods to assist these exports explore, identify, and act upon threats and anomalies.
Visualization Exploration Process
Research
The visualization process is itself information; this information can in turn be visualized. Using models of the visualization exploration process, such processes can be stored, shared with collaborators, or analyzed in different ways.
Depth Perception in Augmented Reality
Augmented reality (AR) is a form of immersive visualization where computer generated graphics are mixed with real-world views. Before practical AR systems can be implemented, we must better understand the factors that influence how observers perceive depth relations in such mixed environments.
Funding and Grants
The VisLab has been succesful in being a part of over $16 million in funded projects. These grants fund student research, faculty salaries, research equipment, and travel.
